The Travel and Transport Working Group are looking at how to encourage walking, cycling and low carbon transport within and beyond Menston. There is a climate emergency and we need to act now!
Low Carbon Travel in Menston
Menston has great access to local facilities such as the Post Office, schools, nurseries and pre-school as well as the station, doctors and sports facilities. CAM has produced a Let’s Get Walking leaflet showing how far you can go within a few minutes walking distance of Kirklands to encourage people to walk rather than use the car. Click on the button below for the map/leaflet - paper copies are available at Menston Library.
Public Transport
Tools to help you plan your journey in West Yorkshire and beyond .
Bus: First Bus run lots of local buses and you can plan a bus journey here.

Walking
There are plenty of local walks. Here are two amazing circular walks, starting and finishing in the centre of Menston, one from Andrew Franks (the Grub Stones Walk) and the other from Geoff Lomas for Menston in Bloom (a gentle tree trail).
You can also find here a selection of the Menston Millennium Walks.
The Dales Way Link passes through Menston and there are several walking groups in the local area.
Menston is connected to the national Slow Ways walking network.
Cycling
Thinking about an e-bike? See this article from one of our CAM members about his experience of using one.
Wharfedale Greenway
For many years, people have been working on the idea of creating a walking and cycling route along the Wharfe Valley roughly on the route of the old railway and linking Pool to Bolton Abbey. Various feasibility studies about routes and cost have been undertaken and in the last couple of years the Friends of Wharfedale Greenway have been trying to push this forward. CAM are supportive of the Greenway project but the link into Menston has its own particular challenges.
Improvements to Main Street
From its early days, the group has been keen to see better provision for cyclists and walkers along Main Street. With funding from the Parish Council , a “Vision for Main Street” was created in 2021 and some of the ideas are being implemented in 2025. The group will continue to look at how to improve the safety for pedestrians and cyclists and hope that more people will feel comfortable to embrace “active travel”.
